Sep 16, 2019· I have some 72s on order arriving tomorrow. The motor attached now is 2 HP and runs 3400 RPM. I put a 2" drive pulley on it and the grinder has a 4" pulley on it. This should get me down to 1700 RPM on my 10" contact wheel. If anyone with more experience with these grinders sees anything going horribly wrong with this setup please let me know.

If you want a true belt GRINDER, not a sander, you are typically talking a belt speed of 5000 to 6000 surface feet per minute and with enough HP to keep it there. A direct drive design using a 3450 RPM motor needs a 6 inch drive wheel to achieve 5420 SFM.
